What is Laparoscopic Myomectomy?

Why Will You Need a Laparoscopic Myomectomy?

Uterine fibroids usually cause little to no symptoms and there is no cause for medical intervention. However, if you experience the below symptoms you may benefit from them being removed:
• Severe pelvic pain
• Abnormally large fibroids
• Severe irregular and/or heavy menstrual bleeding
• Infertility caused by uterine fibroids

What Does a Laparoscopic Myomectomy Involve?

Before the Procedure:
• Consultation with your doctor
• Stop eating or drinking 8 hours before the procedure

During the Procedure:
• General anesthetic
• 3-4 small incisions in the abdomen
• Laparoscopic instruments introduced
• Uterine wall cut and fibroids removed
• Uterus and skin incisions closed
• Procedure takes 1-2 hours

After the Procedure:
• Same day discharge
• Mild discomfort in lower abdomen and vaginal spotting normal
• Return to work and regular activities after 2 weeks

• Excessive blood loss during surgery
• Developing scar tissue after surgery
• Increased risk of pregnancy and delivery complications
• Risk of open operation
